Floral diversity in the central part of Chattogram city, Bangladesh

Purpose This study/paper aims to evaluate the floral richness of central part Chattogram city, Bangladesh. is recognized as largest port city and commercial capital Bangladesh, which confronts faster urbanization swift infrastructure development. Green spaces in around are shrinking sharply, resulted rapid loss faunal resources this area. The present study was carried out from February 2018 January 2019 enumerate vascular plant species Sulakbahar ward located City, Design/methodology/approach area categorized into 10 habitats assess variation composition. extensive whole survey method applied record flora all sorts research Findings enumerated 418 under 315 genera 120 families including natural, planted cultivated habit form recorded composition indicated that herbs (35%) constitute major category followed by trees (34%), shrubs (17%), climbers (12%), ferns (1%) orchids (1%). also exotic (50.3%) became dominant than native (49.7%) because their scenic beauty, easy propagation ornamental value planners inhabitants. Originality/value It appeared great threat due aggressive unplanned development for housing, offices institutions replacing green spaces. recommended urgent protection measures should be taken conserve protect existing well-being urban people.
